We want you to be fully informed about anything that we do here at Collagen Face Centre. Our friendly and knowledgable staff are here to assist you during office hours should you have any other questions or would like to come and see us.

How do wrinkles form?

Our skin is the largest organ of our body, and is comprised of three layers – outer (epidermis), middle (dermis) and deep inner (subcutaneous). The Dermis (middle layer) of skin functions as the skin’s support structure and contains collagen, elastin and other biological substances – including hyaluronic acid (which helps to “bind water” which is necessary to keep skin full and prevent dryness). As we age, the production of these substances decreases and the elastin fibers become looser and gather in formations, visible as wrinkles, fine lines and folds. Every time our muscles pull on our skin to form facial expressions, we are in fact squeezing out tiny amounts of precious collagen and hyaluronic acid.

How do Muscle Relaxants work?

The Muscle Relaxant treatment cause the treated muscles to “relax” so that they no longer contract (squeezing out tiny amounts of precious collagen and hyaluronic acid) and cause lines and wrinkles to form. Muscle relaxant treatments also block nerve impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are directly related to expression lines. After treatment, the skin overlying the treated area becomes smooth and unwrinkled. The muscles that went untreated contract as usual and leave normal facial expressions unaffected.

How long will the treatments last?

Muscle Relaxant treatments will usually last three to five months. - Volume Replacement treatments will usually last between four and eight months. NB: With both products, more treatments mean longer-lasting effects.

Do I really need at home cosmeceuticals?

The short answer is, yes. The skincare you use at home is doing all the ground work in conjunction to the medical treatments we can offer for you in clinic. It's like going to the Gym and eating fast food, but wanting a result when you're only doing half the work. It is however important to use the right cosmeceutical, it's overwhelming when there is so much out there. At Cosmetic Face Clinics we source only the best results driven products for our patients. All of our staff have had an continue to have, training to help recommend the right skincare for our patients. We don't ever recommend a product or a treatment if we don't feel its necessary or will benefit your skin concerns. We are always happy to chat about skincare anytime you're visiting or over the phone/email. We can also post products direct to your home at no extra cost!

What is the recovery time?

Muscle Relaxant treatments require no recovery time – you can head straight back to the office or out to a party after treatment! Volume Replacement treatment may cause minor redness and some swelling for up to 24 hours after treatment, but this can be easily disguised with makeup In regard to down time for all our other treatments, we have made it easier for you and attached the expected downtime underneath each treatment, which you can find under " Our Treatments". Please note these are a guide based on the average. We do however offer complimentary LED Light Therapy treatments with some of our cosmetic treatments to encourage faster healing times, at no extra cost to you.

How do Volume Replacement Treatments work?

Volume Replacement are injected into the skin in tiny amounts – using an ultra fine needle. Dr Peter Bakaric may massage your skin gently to optimize contouring of the gel. This treatment works in 2 ways: once injected into the “mid to deep dermis” (middle layer of skin), the Volume Replacement gel adds volume and fullness which smoothes out facial wrinkles and folds. Then, the gel integrates into dermal tissue, attracts and binds to water molecules and helps to maintain volume. Volume Replacement is made from the body’s own material –“hylauronic acid or collagen” and provide instantaneous, long-lasting natural enhancement.

Do treatments hurt?

Wrinkle reduction is very tolerable treatment. We use ice to help 'numb' the area prior. For volume replacement we offer both ice and a prescription gel to help take any discomfit away.
